LOCATION: Baby's All Right BK.NY
SUBJECT: Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith

I'd been anticipating this. EARS, the new record by Aurelia Smith has been on near constant rotation in my house for nearly a month and is an easy contender for my favorite record of the year.

That said, I had little idea of what to expect, live. How much of it would be improvised? How differently would the arrangements be? It ends up, the compositions are very compact and everything (mostly) appeared in the same places as they do the album. The significant chage was its impact. The sheer richness and depth of her sounds are marvels unto themselves. At higher volumes, each element of the songs unfurls. Chords are constructed only to be deconstructed. Synths bubble and pulse. The bass undertow was immense and her heavily processed vocals added a mind-altering warp to it all.
