Meshes falls into a category of music that I don't, personally, have a name for. It draws on parts of Cluster's komische and Chicago's post rock as well as electronica—but also folds in a bizarre pluderphonic / musique concrète sort of audio collage. The music mixes avant garde techniques with pop chops. The closest equivalent I can find for it is Finland's Kemialliset Ystävät, but Joasihno's music is more structured and less free-for-all than that. It unfurls with a distinct agenda, it has a destination—even if you can't quite place where it's headed.
